Day 264 – Nissan Leaf

Posted in Things by Dave on September 21, 2010

I had the opportunity to drive the new all-electric Nissan LEAF today.  I was pleasantly surprised at how nice it is. This thing is quick, comfortable, and handles really well.

Actually, I’m super geeked out by it right now. The thought of becoming less dependent on imported oil is very intriguing. The zero emissions is also great for reduced local air pollution.  Although in the grand scheme of things, they still require plenty of coal to produce.

They can go 100 miles in between charges and only costs a couple of dollars in electricity to re-charge. That’s far enough for most commutes.

After rebates it will sell for around $25,000 which makes it expensive for a compact car. However, with no gasoline to buy, and very little maintenance, the total cost of ownership will be very reasonable.

I sound like I work for Nissan, but I don’t. I just really liked this car. If you get a chance check it out.
